Mount Spokane [elevation 5,887 feet (1,794 m)]—previously known as Mount Baldy until 1912 due to its pronounced bald spot—is a mountain in the northwest United States, located northeast of Spokane, Washington. Its summit is the highest point in Spokane County, and it is one of the tallest peaks in the Inland Northwest. Mount Spokane is surrounded by Mount Spokane State Park, Washington’s largest at 13,919 acres (56.3 km2). One of the well-known features is a bald spot on the corner of the west and south parts of the mountain. Mount Kit Carson—the second highest peak in Spokane County—is located only 1.02 miles (1.64 km) to the east, and with a topographic prominence of only 322 feet (98 m) could be considered a satellite peak of Mount Spokane. A non-profit organization operates the Mount Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park, located on the southwest portion of the mountain.

When I lived in Germany (1972), my favorite song was titled “Wenn Die Sonne erwacht in den Bergen”. That song was released in many versions and in several languages. I used the English version to musicalize my video climbing to the top of Mt. Spokane. Below these lines: the original German version that I heard so many times when I was 22 years old.

Cuando vivía en Alemania (1972), mi canción favorita se titulaba “Wenn Die Sonne erwacht in den Bergen”. A esa canción le sacaron muchas versiones en varios idiomas. La versión en inglés la utilicé para musicalizar el video subiendo al tope de la Montaña Spokane. The county is taking advantage of the summer – the low season of the mountain – to repair its roads. In about four months the heavy snowfall will begin, and Mt. Spokane will be filled with skiers and local tourists. In the winter of 1966, we spent a week on this magical mountain. In the photo below I am accompanied by my cousin Carmen who was living with us in the home of the Losh family and Sharon and Mark Losh . It was an unforgettable week.

The Vista House, built in 1933, sits at the summit of Mount Spokane within Mount Spokane State Park. The park encompasses nearly 14,000 acres and is the largest in the Washington State Park system. The summit at this location has an elevation of approximately 5,800 feet and is the highest point in the region. This location provides sweeping views of the surrounding areas, particularly to the east and south.
La Vista House, construida en 1933, se encuentra en la cima del Monte Spokane dentro del Parque Estatal Mount Spokane. El parque abarca casi 14,000 acres, y es el más grande en el sistema de parques del estado de Washington. The relatively open landscapes on these sides give distant views, while the views to the north and west sides of the building are partially obscured by the surrounding high alpine forest. The building serves multiple functions for the visiting public. At the exterior, the building features an integrated terrace on the east side to provide a defined space for taking in the magnificent views. The large east side terrace continues around the perimeter of the building in the form of a wide sidewalk. At the interior, there are four main areas: the public gathering room, the former storeroom, toilet rooms, and a former fire lookout room on the upper floor.

Los paisajes relativamente abiertos en estos lados ofrecen vistas distantes, mientras que las vistas hacia los lados norte y oeste del edificio están parcialmente oscurecidas por el bosque alpino alto circundante. El edificio cumple múltiples funciones para el público visitante. Along the way we took a series of generic photographs like this that we found interesting. It is a barn on its way to Mt. Spokane in which, as you can see, it is being ensured that Americans (?) have placed their trust in God… or at least that’s what is understood. Americans – or whoever placed that message in their barn – should be reminded that Cubans, Nicaraguans, Venezuelans, Chileans, Bolivians and Peruvians, among many others, also placed their trust in God. By the results, that trust did not help much, because all those countries ended up atheists, denigrating God: The Almighty!

A lo largo del camino tomamos una serie de fotografías genéricas como ésta que nos pareció interesante. Se trata de un granero que se encuentra camino a la Montaña Spokane en el cual, como se puede ver, se está asegurando que los estadounidenses (¿?) tienen puesta su confianza en Dios… o al menos eso es lo que se entiende. Habría que recordarles a los estadounidenses – o a quien haya colocado ese mensaje en su granero – que los cubanos, nicaragüenses, venezolanos, chilenos, bolivianos y peruanos, entre muchos otros, también pusieron su confianza en Dios. Por los resultados, esa confianza no sirvió de mucho, porque todos esos países terminaron ateos, denigrando de Dios: ¡El Todopoderoso!

On Mt. Spokane there is a location with a reminder to the memory of Peter & Madge Dix. It is not explained why we have to remember this couple who resided in Spokane. Both already deceased. Peter was known to have been a great polo player. From Madge we found this:
